ServicesAsphalt Shingle Roofing
Hawaiian Gardens Asphalt Shingle Roofs
We put on new asphalt shingle roofs and repair existing ones on Hawaiian Gardens homes. Plants get covered and the driveway stays clear before we begin. Every morning you hear what the crew has planned. The result is a solid roof, a tidy yard and no guesswork.

When Asphalt Shingles Are the Right Call
Asphalt shingles cover most pitched roofs in Southern California for good reason. They weigh far less than tile. On a typical house they go on in a day or two. They come in colors that suit a single-story ranch or a two-story. Nailed right over solid decking and good underlayment, they hold up well to strong sun and winter rain.
We do two kinds of shingle work. The first is a full tear-off, where we strip the old roof to the wood and build a new one. The second is a repair, where we fix a few cracked shingles, a lifted ridge cap or a worn pipe boot and leave the rest alone. On the first visit we tell you which one your roof needs and why. If it turns out to be a full roof, our Roof Replacement page covers the bigger picture.
Sun does most of the damage here. UV dries out the asphalt and the granules wash into your gutters. Shingles on the south and west slopes usually curl first. We work in English and Spanish.
What Our Shingle Roofs Include
Stripped to bare wood
Every old layer comes off, not only the top one, so we can see the plywood or plank sheathing. Any soft or delaminated pieces are replaced before new material goes down.
Underlayment and metal edges
The entire deck gets synthetic underlayment. Drip edge along the eaves and rakes directs water into the gutter rather than behind the fascia.
Fresh flashing, boots and vents
Pipe boots, wall step flashing and attic vents are replaced, not reused. Worn metal left under new shingles is a common source of leaks.
Installed to the manufacturer's instructions
Starter strip goes along the edges, nails land in the marked nail line, and each shingle gets the correct number. When California's energy code requires cool-rated shingles on a reroof, we check what applies to your house and show you the qualifying colors.
Yard and home protected
Shrubs and planters get tarped. Plywood stands against nearby windows, and a catch tarp lies under the eaves. If decking is being replaced, we ask you to move items stored in the attic or we cover them.
Permit and city sign-off
We get the city reroof permit and are there for the inspector. The paperwork is on us.

Signs Your Shingles Need Attention
- Curled or cupped edges
- Shingles that lift at the corners or dip in the middle have dried out. Wind gets under them and rain follows.
- Granules in the gutters
- A little grit is normal. Piles of it, or dark bald patches on the roof, mean the asphalt is exposed to the sun and wearing fast.
- Cracked or missing tabs after wind
- Strong dry winds in fall and winter can snap brittle shingles. One missing tab leaves bare underlayment open to the next rain.
- Stains on a ceiling or the attic wood
- Brown rings indoors or dark spots on the attic sheathing mean water is already getting through. Our Roof Leak Repair page explains how we track it down.
- A wavy or sagging roofline
- Dips you can see from the street usually point to soft decking. That needs a look before it spreads.
The Steps of a Shingle Roof Job
- 1
Free visit and itemized estimate
On the first visit we check each slope and the attic if we can get in. We take photos so you can see the roof too. Your free written estimate puts each part of the job on a separate line.
- 2
Plan the job with you
We pick a start date and a spot for the dumpster. We go over moving cars, keeping pets in and how noisy tear-off is. You know who to call with questions.
- 3
Cover up, then strip
Tarps and plywood come first. Then the old roof is removed and we inspect each sheet of decking. If any wood needs replacing, we show you and give you the price before doing it.
- 4
Put on the new roof
Underlayment goes over the bare deck, followed by metal edges and new flashing at walls and pipes. Shingles go on from the eaves upward, and the ridge vent finishes the top. Most homes are sealed and dry by evening.
- 5
Cleanup and final walk
A magnet goes over the lawn, driveway and beds, and we clear out the gutters. We then walk the finished job with you, and the city inspector gives the final approval.
What Goes Into the Cost of Shingle Roofing
We price each shingle roof from what we see at your home, so the number comes after our visit. The written estimate breaks out every item so you know what you're paying for. Financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.
- Roof area and slope
- More roof means more bundles and more labor. Steep slopes go slower because the crew is harnessed and moves with care.
- Old layers coming off
- Stripping two or three old layers takes more time and adds dump fees.
- State of the decking
- Solid plywood adds nothing. Soft or rotted sections get replaced sheet by sheet, and that price is on the estimate so you aren't caught off guard.
- Shingle choice and venting
- Thicker architectural shingles cost more than basic three-tab ones. Adding a ridge vent or extra intake vents also changes the total.
- Permit and add-ons
- The city permit, new gutters or skylight flashing each get a separate line.
Common Questions About Shingle Roofs
- Can new shingles go right over the old roof?
- We nearly always advise a tear-off. Laying over the old roof hides the decking, adds weight and can hold heat under the new shingles. Once the old layers are gone, we can fix problems rather than bury them.
- What lifespan should I expect from new shingles?
- A properly installed shingle roof can last decades, though it depends on the shingle line, attic ventilation and how much sun each slope gets. In our heat, good attic airflow matters a lot. We'll give you a realistic picture for your roof during the visit.
- How do you protect my plants and yard?
- Shrubs and planters get covered and tarps go down where debris lands. Walkways stay clear. Each day ends with a pickup and a magnet sweep for nails. If anything needs moving beforehand, we let you know a few days early.
- Do I have to be home during the job?
- Not the whole day. We prefer a quick talk when the crew shows up and another before we leave, so you know the status. Please unlock the side gates and let us use an outdoor outlet.
- Can insurance pay for a new shingle roof?
- When wind or a storm caused the damage, your policy may pay for some of it. We work directly with your insurance claim, show the adjuster our findings and explain each step. Coverage is the adjuster's decision. See our Storm Damage Repair page for more.
